Interpretation
This test was performed using a real time PCR assay. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings. A positive result does not necessarily indicate the presence of viable organisms. Positive results do not rule out co-infection with other organisms that are not detected by this assay. For Shiga toxin, this assay detects Shiga toxin 1 / Shiga toxin 2 genes (found in Shiga toxin-producing E. coli as well as Shigella dysenteriae). This test should not be used as a test of cure.
Cautions
The assay does not test for all potential infectious agents of diarrheal disease.
