Interpretation
Pleural: Pleural fluid rich in amylase (fluid amylase to serum/plasma amylase ratio > 1) is associated with acute and chronic pancreatitis, esophageal leakage, malignancy, cirrhosis, or pneumonia.
Pancreatic cyst: Very low pancreatic cyst fluid amylase concentrations (< 250 U/L) exclude a pseudocyst in the majority of cases.
Peritoneal, Drainage, PFUN: The reference range has not been established for this fluid specimen. The fluid results should be compared with the concentration in serum/plasma or integrated into the clinical context for interpretation.
