Percentage of platelets that have immature features including larger size and elevated RNA and indicator of the rate of thrombopoiesis.  Typically elevated in disorders of platelet destruction (ITP, DIC, TTP, etc.) and typically decreased in disorders of platelet production (chemotherapy, aplastic anemia, etc.).
