Cautions

Sodium/Chloride: Falsely low sodium and chloride results may occur in the presence of hyperlipidemia or hyperproteinemia.
Potassium: Falsely elevated serum/plasma potassium measurements may occur with lysis of red or white blood cells or platelets during or after blood collection.
Creatinine: Creatinine results may be falsely decreased in icteric samples. In some cases of monoclonal gammopathies (especially Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia with very high concentrations of IgM), creatinine results may be unreliable.
Calcium: Calcium results may be affected in patients who received gadolinium containing contrast media within the past 24 hours (especially patients with impaired renal function).
Albumin: Albumin results may be unreliable in samples with high concentration of paraproteins, especially IgM.
Inorganic Phosphate: Falsely elevated inorganic phosphorus results may occur in hemolyzed specimen.
