Clinical Information

Evaluation of functional integrity of the platelets, aid in diagnosis of von Willebrand's disease, Glanzmann's thrombasthenia, storage pool disease, Bernard-Soulier syndrome, and platelet function abnormalities induced by metabolic abnormalities.

Specimen Volume: 2.7 mL

Specimen Collection Information

Testing must be scheduled in advance with the Special Coagulation Lab. For appointments call 366-2794, between 7:30a-3p, Monday - Friday, to schedule. Outpatient sample collection is available at the OSU Ross Laboratory ONLY.  A requisition or order, with physician signature and diagnosis code required.

Sample must be hand carried to lab and cannot be placed in a pneumatic tube system.

Cautions

Test is contraindicated in:

  • Patients with platelet counts less than 140,000/ml. Requires medical director approval.
  • Patients taking medications known to adversely affect platelet function. These drugs, including aspirin and medications containing aspirin, other NSAIDs, anti-depressants and a variety of other drugs need to be held for 10 days prior to the scheduled test.
  • Children under 2 years of age.

Born method of turbidimetric aggregation with simultaneous measurement of ATP release by platelet lumi-aggregometry.
